Anti Wrinkle Injections

Anti Wrinkle Injections are used to soften frown lines and laughter lines. It’s short for “botulinum toxin” and is a purified form of the toxin, albeit only used in very small quantities. This is probably what scares some people, along with pictures of celebrities with frozen, unnatural expressions and the ‘wind tunnel’ look.

But the truth is, it’s a safe treatment in the hands of a trained professional with evidence of clinical success. As qualified dentists, we possess an intimate understanding of the intricate balance of muscle movement in the face and use this knowledge to inject with skill and precision. We prefer to retain a small amount of movement, thereby avoiding a frozen appearance and produce natural-looking results.

Dr Alex Fenech has completed an Advanced Course in Botulinum Toxin injections and has carried out hundreds of treatments. Our main source of new patients is from word-of-mouth referrals which, we feel, is the best recommendation of all. It is also always lovely to hear patients tell us how many compliments they have received from friends and colleagues, without them realising they’ve had anything done.

Anti Wrinkle Injection are mainly used to treat frown lines, the lines on the forehead, ‘crow’s feet’ or ‘laughter lines’ around the eyes and also to soften fine lines around the lips. We frequently use Anti Wrinkle Injections in conjunction with dermal filler, to soften frown lines or fine smoker’s lines around the mouth.

Although best known for treating facial lines and wrinkles, it can also be used to reduce excessive perspiration (hyperhydrosis) of the underarms, hands and feet.

A very fine needle is used to inject directly into skin wrinkles, lines and creases which results in a temporary relaxation of the facial muscles, preventing the formation of wrinkles and softening existing lines. It isn’t painful and cream can be applied to stop the scratch that can be felt on application. Most patients have only mild and temporary discomfort afterwards.

The entire procedure usually takes no longer than 10 minutes. You are likely to see wrinkles softened in 3-5 days although full effects usually take up to 10 days. The effects usually last 3-6 months.

Here at Saltdean Dental, we always do an initial facial cosmetics consultation as it’s important to understand the effects you wish to achieve.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers can give back the fullness lost naturally with age, producing a ‘plumping’ effect. It is good for softening deep lines, folds and scarring (particularly of the lower face) and for reshaping lips, putting back the ‘architecture’ that was there years before.

Dermal Fillers can either be based on synthetic substances or natural substances, for example hyaluronic acid, which is found in your own skin. Here at Saltdean Dental, we only use dermal fillers which are tried, tested and trusted, that have been the subject of extensive clinical trials and are personally recommended by patients themselves. The two main dermal fillers brands we use are Restylane® and Juvéderm®.

As qualified dentists, we are highly trained in the muscles of the face. We use this knowledge to inject dermal fillers with skill and precision, favouring a less-is-more approach, especially with lips, to avoid the ‘trout pout’ and ‘fish lips’. Dr Alex Fenech has completed an Advanced Course in the use of Dermal Fillers.

Personal referrals have been our most successful form of advertising and for that we are sincerely grateful. Nothing pleases us more than knowing patients are pleased with their treatment – and friends haven’t even noticed they’ve had work done!

Nose-to-mouth and mouth-to-chin lines can all be softened, if not removed, as can ‘bunny lines’ at the top of the nose. We also frequently use dermal fillers in conjunction with Botulinum Injections to treat frown lines and fine (smoker’s) lines around the lips. Although best known for treating facial lines and wrinkles, they can also be used to treat exposed areas such as the neck, hands and décolletage.

Treatment is very quick, taking 20-40 minutes depending on the number of lines and wrinkles treated. With the use of dental anaesthesia, the process is painless. And only go to a professionally trained clinician.

Results are immediate and you can go straight back to your daily routine, applying make-up straight after if you wish. Temporary redness, swelling and tenderness are all common following treatment, but usually go away after a few hours. We always advise patients to come back after a couple of weeks so we can see how they are progressing and inject more filler if necessary.

Our first step at Saltdean Dental is to carry out a facial cosmetics consultation, to establish your expectations and also to measure your muscle activity. We then build a treatment tailored to you.
